Social media personality Andrew Tate, known for his misogynistic views online, has been charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women in Romania. Prosecutors in Bucharest have also charged Tate’s brother and two Romanian women.
The group allegedly formed a criminal organization in 2021, engaging in human trafficking in Romania, the United States, and Britain. The agency claims that seven female victims were deceived and brought to Romania, where they were sexually exploited and subjected to physical violence. Tate, who has been living in Romania since 2017, denies the charges and believes it is a political conspiracy.
The Tate brothers and the Romanian suspects were detained in late December and are currently on house arrest. Tate, who has a large following on social media, has faced previous bans for hate speech and misogynistic comments.
Romanian prosecutors have ordered the confiscation of the brothers’ assets, including luxury cars, watches, and cryptocurrency. Civil claims are also being pursued against Tate in Britain by several women alleging sexual violence.
